Independent Contractor Opportunity: Brass Tutor & Band/Ensemble Director

Commencing Term 1, 2026 to end of Term 4, 2026 – Townsville

  • a large music theory and practice room;
  • six music tutoring rooms;
  • ensemble spaces and recording facilities;
  • multiple performance opportunities throughout the year.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Brass Tutor & Band/Ensemble Director to inspire students and strengthen our musical culture. This is an Independent Contractor position, commencing Term 1, 2026 until end of Term 4, 2026. Hours will be based on the number of students enrolled in the program and may be subject to changes throughout the year. Key responsibilities include:

Individual Brass Tuition

  • Deliver engaging weekly lessons for students from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Teach sound instrumental technique and music literacy.
  • Foster a love of learning and music.
  • Maintain attendance records and prepare semester reports.
  • Communicate with parents regarding progress when required.

Band/Ensemble Direction

  • Lead and facilitate weekly rehearsals for bands and ensembles.
  • Source and adapt music resources to suit varying abilities and instrumentation.
  • Conduct performances and collaborate on event schedules.
  • Manage instrument allocation, returns, and repairs in consultation with the Creative Arts Coordinator.

Contract Rates (payable upon tax invoice to the College):

  • $35 per student per 30-minute individual lesson
  • $35 per 30-minute band program session
  • $70 per hour for ensemble rehearsals and approved performances

About You

To be considered, you must have:

  • A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
  • Public Liability Insurance.
  • An ABN.

  • Ability to develop a thriving ensemble program and contribute to the growth of our arts culture.
  • Strong musicianship, including the ability to transcribe and adapt music parts.
